News of this sent markets into freefall. The Free-Enterprisers acting in the manner of religious fundamentalists hold dear to their mantra of non intervention in the economy yet present no alternative. Clear evidence that the market comes first, people and therefore democracy come way down the scale to these ladies and gentlemen.
Meanwhile back on planet Cameron, the Tory plans get a hammering. Osborne goes on about protecting the Taxpayer yet fails to convince anyone that they really would punish 'those responsible' ie their mates in the financial institutions of shortselling and profiting out of al this. So George, you are going to wait until you get in power and then chase after these guys with a bill? Your acting like a lilly livered liberal George!!

Will the Tories condemn short selling?
I doubt it.
So much for Cameron and his pals putting over an image of being 'classless'. To be honest I dont think anyone was really fooled by them. Its always worth remembering that in times of economic crisis the Tories will always rally round their friends in the city.
Hopefully New Labour will realise this and keep the parasites in the city at arms length.
Look like a Bradford and Bingley deal is being sorted. 370 jobs already lost. But its going to be alright for some and I bet he is a Tory supporter.
At least the Royals are immune to the Credit Crunch!!

Credit Crunch Lash Up
The recent ructions in World Capitalism have brought all the apologists for free enterprise down to earth and the ghost of Karl Marx is gently chuckling in the background. The meeting over the weekend of all the top knobs in the US establishment looks like its cobbled together a deal which at least temporarily shores up the baricades for a few days until the next bank goes into administration. All the talk of leaving the market to fend for itself, the invisible hand and opposition to state intervention and regulation in markets have been conveniently forgotten as the rich and wealthy get hold of tax payers money to dig themselves out of this hole. Freidman must be turning in his grave. Whats more Thatchers children know no answers. Even Boris said today at the Tory Con-ference, not to have a go at the bankers!! Not that the US financier politburo would listen to a twit like Boris!
The blind greed of the bankers, hedge fund sharks and speculators has brought about a crisis that no democracy could ever control. It brings to us in the advanced capitalist countries, the reality that it doesnt matter how 'democratic' a country is, the ordinary joe's who religiously vote every few years have absolutely no say over the capitalist dictatorship that has clearly been proven to exist over the last couple of months. The more astute among us must now be questioning when we will ever learn and start demanding control of the financial institutions.
I hear a debate about real democratic socialist control of the economy could soon be on the agenda.
And another thing. What is the point of Brown going to Washington this weekend? He will be left standing in the hallway as the big boys talk turkey about money. Does he really believe that 'little ole Britain' is of any importance to the cabal that is deciding our futures in Washington? He should have stayed at home and concentrated on building on the gains that he got in the polls since the LP conference especially with the revelations in this Sundays Observer, here, here and here, to exploit.
The talk after the LP conference should have been about policies and not personalities and yet Brown seems fixed on walking headlong into a Tory victory if he doesnt start taking drastic action and bring the runnaway UK financial market under control. Whats more some one has to realise that we need policies to make sure this kind of thing never happens again.

Check out here the Youtube videos.
I have commented about this website and campaign before. An excellent Labour movement resource which I hope we can produce similar here.

Big Dan RIP
Not one to mourn too much when an employer passes on but I have always been one to give credit where credit is due.
Sad to to the death of this boss.
Sad to to the death of this boss.
JK Rowling donation. Middle England darling supports Labour!!
Bit of a coup this just before the LP Conference. I bet Cameron is livid that one of the most popular authors in the world has sided with Brown. When you look at her popularity and the point she made about why she is making the donation it has certainly made the right headlines for Labour on the eve of conference. Will our fickle celebrity obsessed middle england electorate make the connection though?
'Bottler Brown,' credit crunch, splits in the party and all the other favourite media headlines will be second place this weekend.
Mind you, I fully expect the Mail on Sunday to slag her off tomorrow.

Lessons from the XL Disaster. How Capitalism treats its workers and customers with contempt
This week saw the complete collapse of the company XL who left close to 80'000 holiday makers completely stranded. It wasnt the first nor will it be the last as even Italy could have a similar problem. The news was like a bolt out of the blue as holiday makers set of to the airports completely unaware that the company had gone into administration. Staff had similarly been treated in such an obnoxious manner, some finding out through the rumour mill that the company was up shit creek. Just think, the unions were taking part in meaningful negotiations on pay and this dishonest crowd of bastards didnt have the guts to disclose any financial problems they were having. XL's loyal custumers had to put up with being stranded in the Med with many having to refinance flights home.
This is the power that capitalism has over worker and consumer alike. Yet the government who are quite happy to tolerate getting filthy rich, are happy to deregulate and casualise our public services in the name of 'choice' and lie prostrate in front of global capitalism which creates minimal benefit to the employee, are more than happy to put up with this.
This is what makes this latest crisis so sickening. The government could get some easy wins here by introducing robust legislation to control big business yet they follow the old monetarist line of not interfering with their business friends.
Every single XL customer and employee deserves generous compensation for this clear abuse yet unfortunately they have to put up with minimal handouts which the government view as 'affordable'.
The argument for Public Ownership is becomming stronger and while Labour languishes in the polls and the New Labour entrists squabble amongst themselves they have to realise that if they dont address the issue of how unaccountable big business affects the lives of ordinary people they will quickly become a permanent opposition to the Tories.
The answer can be found in Socialism.

Denis MacShane loses it on CIF
Sorry for not posting for a bit. Thought I would have a break before I completely turned into an internet nerd!! This post needed to be said.
What an odious individual this man is.
Comparing the leaders of the UKs largest union with anti semites and the BNP!!
Yes I have read the article properly. While New Labour/Third Way in the guise of Gordon Brown is busily preparing power for Cameron, workers across the country understandibly feel they are losing out economically.Simpson has expressed very much what the majority of workers feel. Believe me far worse is being said on the doorsteps.
MacShane should get his head out of his arse and realise that policies have to seriously change if power is not to be handed to the Tories on a plate.
But then again maybe he likes the view!!
